Good morning!

I'm sick. I've stressed myself out so much, which I have a very small tendency (large) to do, that I've gone and made myself sick. I've yet to even start my 2nd job, or actually even formally been OFFERED the job, so that actually has me stressed out as well. I guess I should probably go ask about that, except I found out that the woman who hires went on vacation until the end of the month. Awesome.

This week is midterms week (more stress) and I think I actually did pretty well all things considered. I did Effective Management yesterday, which was harder then I had expected but not that much harder, and literally just got out of Consumer Behavior. This coming week I have Critical Thinking, Merchandising Math, and Selling Techniques. Selling Techniques isn't written, it's a presentation (thank God) but now I just need to get my voice back.

So I'm sorry for the lack of posting, I'll do my best but my boss(es) have me busy and I'm just trying to keep up and stay alive and deal with the personal problems that I've been having. I forgot what being a totally broke college student was like. I no longer live in a Toronto penthouse *sob*

Until next time you hear from me, pray that I'm alive.
Stay cute,
B

2+1+5=UGGH

That is essentially my schedule. I am going for a job interview today with FIDM Tours to do, well, the tours at FIDM for prospective students and their parents. I'm extremely confident, but not too confident. I am just skilled at the art of the job interview and am pretty pumped. It's a great job with flexible hours so it really is ideal. I will still be hanging on to my job at the museum shop as it too is a great gig and I don't want to leave it, but it is my priority as I was there first.

I also am rapidly approaching mid-terms, with two coming up next week each in Management Concepts and Consumer Behavior. I'm, like usual, confident but not overly so. I may or may not have lost my Consumer Behavior book somewhere so I'm not hyper thrilled about that... I just have to go take it out from the library. I swear if you go take it out, I'll find you and steal it. Not. Joking.

I also have my new internship with The Gordon Unlimited/The-Collaboratory which I am so excited about I could spit. It is with one of the Trend Forecasting teachers and she is so smart and insightful I have already learned a ton. When there is more information to be discussed on the topic I will talk about it but let's just say it has me very, very busy and I'm doing even more blogging, as if that were possible.

So kids have a good mid-term week and this quarter is almost over already. Keep your fingers crossed for me on the job interview and mid-terms, cause I'm really gonna need it.

You're not learning.

Remember our unfortunate friend who caught the wrong side of a style post. He was the one wearing his awful rolled up jeans ensemble that did NOT flatter his shape. He's still doing it!!!

While working extremely hard at the illustrious FIDM Museum Shop (you probably haven't heard of it, its extremely exclusive) I swear I see him DAILY wearing the same terrible outfit! Plaid neon button down shirt open with a ratty black t-shirt, the aformentionned rolled up jeans... which I think are a bootleg cut, and black toms shoes. oh and fake ray bans that are also a neon colour. I don't care so much about the fakeness, but the awfulness (is that a word?). Aside from the rolling of the jeans the outfit isn't THAT bad. its totally lame LA trying-to-be-hipster but it has potential. At least its A look, but is a bad look better than no look at all?

I've given up on this young man, but if you happen to see him walking around FIDM... give him a hand. Bring him down the alley in thw Fashion District and get him a new shirt and some jeans... and don't tel him roll them up. Please. And remember kids, keep it cute. -B

Exhausted

I am absolutely exhausted, so sorry for the lack of posts. Since school started I haven't had a day off from either reading my thrilling textbooks, or working inventory at the FIDM Museum Store. It has truly been exhausting. I went from being on break doing absolutely nothing but being cute to working every minute I'm not in class or doing homework. I'm becoming extremely grumpy, something my loving partner has put up with ever so lovingly. Love you sugar.

I went over my Thursday class *snooze* but Friday is far more promising. Consumer Behavior and Selling Techniques *snooze*. I kid, the classes are more interesting then Thursday, which will from here on out be referred to as Dullsday, mainly because the teachers make them so. Boring subject + interesting teacher = interesting class. Class discussion is one of the things I'm super good at because I have way too much knowledge about super random stuff, so it's fun to get to chat away in class with your teacher and learn even more junk!

This post is going to be short, so I leave you all for now. Oh! But one more thing, there was a trend reporter on campus taking pictures of students (I didn't get one.. I was lookin a mess doing inventory at work) but it reminded me that you need to go to www.nufangled.blogspot.com and check out my Trend Forecasting blog. That is, after all, the field I want to go into. If you're extremely well connected in this area... hire me? Thanks betch.

Bye for now, and keep it cute.

Quarter by Quarter...

And school is back...

Summer quarter, which I had anticipated on being slow with not a lot of students and poor teachers due to teachers not wanting to teach the summer quarter, actually doesn't suck! I was completely wrong. My class this quarter go as follows:

Tuesday:
Merchandise Math
Thursday:
Management Concepts
Critical Thinking
Friday:
Consumer Behavior
Selling Techniques

I haven't yet gone to Merchandise Math but let's get real, it's math. I may be a business student (fashion business, cause that sounds better) but I still don't care very much for math classes. Can't we take "Styling 101" in it's place or something, preferably taught by Rachel Zoe or her assistant Brad? On a side note, I love him.

As per usual I have all of my classes with my good friend Anna, who by the way is due to give birth on the week of finals. I don't think we will be doing a lot of study groups together. Friday is by far the best day as the classes are exponentially more interesting then on Thursday.

Remember a couple of posts back when I mentioned that some classes are just boring and there's not a whole lot the teacher can do about it, the class is just boring. Well go ahead and pick out what class that is this quarter, aside from math.

Keep thinking...

If you guessed Management Concepts, you're 100% right. Sorry Mrs. Rucker, but the material is dull, the reading is dull, and the concept is dull. While it is completely useful not only in the business I want to go into (Trend Forecasting) but also in my every day life, there is just no way to make how to be an effective manager sound fun and exciting. She's done a good job of explaining the benefits of the class, ad nauseum (seriously), it just doesn't outweigh how dramatically dry the class is. Which is sad, because I think she's probably a great teacher but having this class with her will probably not make me all that enthusiastic about her teaching style. Sorry ma'am, but I'll still show up and participate in class as always. Like I wouldn't, just try and shut me up.

That's all for now. I will discuss my classes a little more in detail when I've had them more then once. Gotta be fair after all.

Thanks for reading, and remember to keep it cute. I'll be watching... and soon I'll be posting!

Catsup?

Two days, two posts... what do you think about THAT?! I'm not that impressed either.

So, let's play catch-up friends. Like I said in my last post, the transition was harder than I thought it would be but I've begun to cope a bit more. The first quarter at FIDM is, let's put it lightly, a cakewalk. Its extremely simple (at least in my major) and even if you don't read very much of the texts and take decent notes, you can pass with a pretty easy B, if not an A.

Second quarter is a whole new ballgame kiddos. The classes get tougher, the teachers get more serious, and the homework piles grow exponentially. I took 6 classes this quarter (Tip 1) and I remember one week having 8 projects due... that was week 2 and it was a light week (Tip 2). The cake had been eaten and the menu was now coal... a coalwalk... yes...

Those little tips I'm adding are warnings. Chances are you WILL have to take 6 classes in a quarter at some point, and chances are you will have 1t projects (not really) due during finals. I personally had 11 during finals and I'm sure someone has 15... at least.

So yes, the classes get much, much harder. Socially, however and hopefully, things will take an upswing. I now know most of the people in my classes and it makes classes way better (thank god).

On another note, yours truly got a job on campus working! I'm not going to tell you weirdos where just in case you get all stalkery on me but suffice is to say its extremely glamorous... better than the FIDM Cafe for sure (no offense guys... you just seem to have to do a lot more work... you're all cool though and make delicious ramen).

I think that's all of note... I'm going to try and do more stuff then lame school tips and perhaps some more commentary?

And remember, keep it cute!

Coming home....

I know.. I know I've been a bad blogger. I haven't posted a thing since JANUARY when I first moved here. The transition hit me a little harder than I thought and while it would have made a great place for blog fodder this isn't the appropriate avenue to piss an.d moan about my personal life. This is the place to piss and moan about school!

Kidding.

So to catch you all up (HI!) I have completed two quarters at FIDM thus far in my Merchandising Marketing major. I'm about to enter into my 3rd quarter and am hyper confident. After dropping the ball a little bit in the second quarter (3.08 GPA... ouch) down from a 3.8 no less, I am back on track. So a couple tips to keep your grades up:

1. Don't leave class early. This really messed me up in my Effective Speaking class during my 2nd quarter. I would leave at the break and instead of an easy A I wound up with a C... but its my own fault. There are boring classes yes, and to no fault of the instructor... it just happens

2. READ YOUR BOOK!!!! This will help you so much on quizzes and you don't even know it. Especially if you have a class with Marcus, who is amazing btw. You will never retain more information in your life.

There are of course more tips but I need something to talk about later. It is my goal to post about twice a week but we will see.. there's lots more to talk about including my new JOB!! Mmmm paycheck... mmmm bowties....

Until next time, remember to keep it cute

Soz 4 real!

I know, I know, almost a week and not a single post. I've been a very naughty boy and I insist upon being spanked.

I only wish I had more to talk about. My camera has been dead since I'm too lazy to even blog, you all know I didn't plug in my camera to be charged. It's on my to-do list tonight I promise!

So last week was my first full week of school and I have to tell you I've really enjoyed myself. It's been a lot of fun thus far meeting people and seeing all of the crazy ridiculous people that call this place their school as well. There have been some LOOKS girl, trust. There's also been way too much Ed Hardy and the like for my tastes. It makes me sad that I own an Ed Hardy hat, but I donated it to charity. I also removed the picture of me wearing it from Facebook, and I own the original. Phew!

I've been jotting down some blog talk topics in a little notebook I've started to carry around. And I promise I will do my best to start taking pictures and getting really deep into blogging on this thing to let you all know how fashion school is and how I'm coming along in my classes. I have actually already tested out of my Technology for Business Applications class, so I don't have to sit through remedial computers anymore. It's ridiculous how simple that class is, even though the test was a bit of a challenge. Yours truly had no problems though, obvies.

My look today:
- Plaid Jacket
- White button down shirt
- Black check tie
- Dark blue slim leg jeans
- Calf high boots

Jeans tucked into boots loosely with the collar popped on the shirt (it doesn't look as douchey as it sounds) with the sleeves on the jacket rolled up. It's a good look, trust me. I'll take pictures later I PROMISE, and I will add them to the bottom of this post.

Bye!

Straighties!

I'm currently sitting in what can only be descibed as death, but infinetly more boring.

Welcome to Technology for Business Applications. It is essentially a basic knowledge of HOW to use a computer. He's literally going over things like how to START a program. The best part about this class? I can test out of it; meaning that I can take a test and show my proficiency in computers and never be this bored ever again.

Something interesting did happen today, faithful readers. I made a friend! Or rather, I spoke to someone for more than 5 minutes outside of the class room. Casually sitting out in the main outdoor area people watching (more on that later) and she sat down next to me to compliment me on my vest. It was fun. She's from Orange County and comes to our gorgeous LA campus once a week. If you see her out and about, or sitting alone, on campus, say hello! I'll be sure to remember her name next Friday... She's in fashion design though!

Now... the people watching. I seem to have found a conglomerate of straight hipster guys at FIDM. There's probably... 5 of them, which trust me is a lot at this school. I'm often the only guy in any of my classes, and I'm, obviously, as queer as a 3-dollar bill. They had the typical uniform, skinny jeans, t-shirt, cardigan, sneakers, and a couple of them had a cap on representing something ironic I'm sure. One was a step ahead of his peers however and was wearing my current obsession, the Fox Fur Key chain. His was black, which is kind of lame, but it's the only one I've seen since I've been here. Since I won't wear real fur I don't own one of these beauties myself but when I find a Faux-Fur that doesn't remind me of a bad anime costume, believe there will be photos!

There were some outlandish outfits like there usually are, and no I didn't take pictures. My favorite of the day was the 6'1 boy who was probably about 210lbs, kinda "fat-skinny", wearing a navy blue blazer with a gorgeous broach, but then he ruined it with these hideous yoga style jodpur pants. Ew.

Anyways kids, that's all for now. I was talking to BryanBoy yesterday and told him about the millions of BB lookalikes there are at FIDM. Let's see if I can't get the motivation to do a Bryan Boy or not? style feature... Coming soon!

We'll see ya tomorrow bitches!

Day 1 and an Introduction

Hello,

I kept thinking to myself, sitting alone on the campus of FIDM outside, how much would other people maybe like to peer into the world where young fashionistas are about to take the industry by storm. The possible future leaders and style and design could be sitting in a classroom with me (probably not) or eating that delicious looking salad just across the way.

My name is Brayden. I'm in my first quester here at FIDM and am majoring in Merchandise Marketing. Over the last 72 hours I've learned something very important:

I'm not in Toronto anymore.

This little blog of mine will be a glimpse, possibly even a passing glance, at what it's like to go to fashion school. Mind you I'm not the one who will be designing anything or sewing through my fingers (although I've done it once, and it sucked) I will be letting you know how it is here in downtown LA and how much I want to lose my mind.

I think it's too soon for introductions really. I do like to leave something to the imagination, afterall you may think I'm not stylish enough for your tastes and just run off and read BryanBoy some more. So for now I'll let you minds run wild, and get right down to the nitty-gritty of it all.

Day 1 has been nice so far. It's about 72 degrees out here in SoCal in the beginning of January (jealous?) which this Canadian can't really complain about... yet. My first instructor of the day was a GM for the Mid-Pacific islands for Chanel, which is obviously amazing, and we dove right into the materials and introduced ourselves. Later in the day we have History of Costume, which I'm dying to get to.

I'll leave you for now, we don't want to make this too long-winded and boring although I'm certain I passed that point a long, long time ago.

Talk to you soon kids. and remember to dress up! Coming soon: FIDM's very first look of the day.
